Teaching Accountancy Firm (TAF), The First Initiative In The Wold, Bridging The Gap Between Academia and Practice (BERNAMA)

PUNCAK ALAM, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- SALIHIN Chartered Accountant (SALIHIN) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) are pleased today to announce the official launching of the Teaching Accountancy Firm (TAF) at UiTM by the guest of honor, Minister of Finance II, YB Datuk Johari bin Abdul Ghani.

This SALIHIN-UiTM TAF provides a unique and advanced learning and training field for accounting lecturers, students and the industry.  This collaboration, also known as ‘industry coming to the university’, aims at providing better learning environment in a real-life industry setting for producing “thinking and enterprising accountants” relevant to industrial and national needs.

“It is the hallmark of SALIHIN’s innovative practical solution addressing the unmet needs and challenges facing the nation, the industry and the academia in nurturing and producing industry-ready graduates,” said Salihin Abang, Managing Partner of SALIHIN. He believes that accountancy related subjects, such as financial accounting, taxation, auditing, and the like, are practical in nature, yet students and lecturers are not adequately exposed to the real-life industry practice in the learning process. Concerns about skill-mismatch, incompetency and other graduate employability issues are best addressed with the TAF concept.

Thus, the TAF will enhance the value of UiTM’s accountancy graduates as it gives them the opportunity through real-world practice to gain and graduate with relevant skills and experience above their peers in other universities. Equally important is the TAF’s aim to generate revenues through secured projects in the various services areas to support the financial sustenance of UiTM. The TAF also complements the government Higher Education Ministry’s policy on 2u2i, that is, 2 years in universities learning theory and 2 years in industrial attachment. As such, it has been well received by both the government and by the universities.

This marriage between SALIHIN and UiTM is expected to contribute immensely in nurturing and producing quality employable accounting graduates by bridging the gap between theory and practice in a real-industry atmosphere.

SALIHIN, established over 14 years ago, aspires to become the preferred national accountancy firm of Malaysia. It consists of a group of distinct entities tailoring independent consulting services in auditing and assurance, taxation, shariah auditing, business advisory and corporate finance.

UiTM was established in 1956 and currently has 24 faculties. The Faculty of Accountancy envisioned becoming a leading reference centre and a catalyst to the accounting profession.
